Graphics Section

Background:

The Graphics Section came into operation in 2001.The section has two subsections:

1.) CCMS (Computerised Cadastral Mapping Section)
2.) Topographical section

Both were established in the years 1992 and 1994 respectively. Initially with the assistance of the New Zealand government the department moved into metrication and all existing imperial sheets were digitized and placed into digital format based on Fiji Map.

Grid projection with geodetic coordinates derived from WGS spheroid. This is now known as the CCMS database which contains data from survey plans and NLC surveys.

Then there is the Topographical database which has all 1:25000 topographical compilation sheets scanned and vectorised and stored as design files. The two databases contain 85 complete topographical files, 385 imperial files,1470 metric files and 427 NLC files.

Objectives:

The primary purpose of Graphics section is to ensure constant update of all digital topographical and cadastral data. Capture, manipulate, verification, maintain and supply of digital or hard copy of cadastral, topographical and NLC data to Government and general public. It also maintains high quality data input for the Topographical and Cadastral databases.

Tasks:

The tasks performed are Charting, Survey Plan noting, Updating Plan Journal, Topo sheets verification, vanuaview updates and maintenance of metric files and ad-hoc jobs.

The section also  trains staff, attends to training and provides Ministerial support such as examinations and meetings. The section charted 366 plans, noted 389 plans and 399 plans were updated in the plan journal. Also 105 plans and 62 metric sheets were visited for corrections for year 2006.
