FPSSD Certificate awarded to MLMR Staff

Four staff of Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources were awarded the Fiji Public Service Survey Draughting Examination (FPSSDE) last year.

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Koya handed over the FPSSDE certificate of competency to Mr. Amit Deo (Statutory Section) and Ms. Ashika Deo (Plan Assessment Unit).

FPSSDE is a local exam equivalent to the New Zealand Public Service Survey Draughting Examination. This examination started in 1964 where the Department of Lands facilitates a professional examination on behalf of the Fiji Public Service Commission.

This FPSSDE is conducted locally by a committee within the Geospatial Information Management Division appointed by the Director of Lands. The course has two stages and covers a wide range of technical topics such as: Cartography, Photogrammetry, GIS/LIS, Survey Computation, Plan Drawing and Introduction to Land Surveying, Draughting Practice, Civil Service and Departmental knowledge and Principles of Land Administration.

Upon successfully completing the stage 2 final practical exam, the candidate is awarded a certificate of competency.

Candidates who have been part of this exam include; the Ministry staff, staff from iTLTB, Ministry of i-Taukei Affairs, Hydrographic Unit in the Fiji Navy and employees from private surveying companies.

Meanwhile, the candidates from within the Ministry who have successfully completed stage 2 are Mr. Amit Deo (Statutory Section), Ms. Ashika Deo (Plan Assessment Unit), Mr. Josefa Sakaraia and Mr. Akasio Yavala.
