The Hon. Minister kick started day two of the Northern Division tour with a brief from the President of Kalo Exploration Limited, Michael Nesbitt and later visited the Kalo Exploration sites.
The company currently holds two exploration licenses including: Cirianiu and Coqeloa. They have been exploring for gold in the last nine years. The Cirianiu Project is an advanced exploration project meaning there is high probability that it will develop into a mine.
The Hon. Minister during the site visit expressed his appreciation for the company’s commitment for investing in Fiji’s Mineral Sector. To date, the company has invested over $9 million for the exploration works.
Hon. Minister, Jone Usamate also visited the old Labasa Fish Market at the Labasa river reserve. 45 fish vendors were successfully relocated to the new Labasa fish market within a month by the Labasa Town Council upon the issuance of Eviction Notice by Ministry of Lands.
These vendors were given Eviction Notice due to the high water mark. This was done for the safety and hygiene of the vendors.The new fish market was constructed by the Labasa Town Council with proper facilities.
Hon. Minister also visited the Maintenance of Existing Subdivision (access road) carried out by Ministry of Lands at Bulileka, Macuata.
“There are currently six families benefiting from this project as they have easier access to road,” he said.Hon. Minister added that this project covered 400 meters and cost Government approximately $41,000. He added that the project is in the third phase which is near completion.
