The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources (MLMR) with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) hosted the first monthly meeting for the Fiji Geospatial Information System and Remote Sensing (GIS/RS) User Forum for 2021 today (09/02/21).
The GIS/RS user forum is the platform that links all the GIS/RS users in Fiji and promotes networking within the field of GIS/RS.
The meeting was held at MLMR Headquarters with more than 60 participants including virtual participants from various Government Departments as well as the private sector.
The Director of Geospatial Information Management Division, Ms. Meizyanne Hicks in her opening remarks welcomed the participants on behalf of the Hon. Minister and the Permanent Secretary for LMR.
She also provided a background on GIS/RS User Forum and thanked the users for their active participation.
Ms Hicks also acknowledged the support of the Fiji Geospatial Information Management Council. This has allowed the contributions of GIS/RS Users to be recognized at the national level such as the COVID 19 and TC Yasa/TC Ana responses.
Presentations were focused on areas of disaster, hydrographic modeling, topographic, open street mapping and technological innovations.

The next meeting is scheduled for 2nd March,2021 hosted by Mineral Resources Department.
