VIRTUAL TRAINING ON SEISMOLOGY VSAT (VERY SMALL APERTURE TERMINAL) EQUIPMENT’S
The National Seismological Network will soon undergo upgrading works after the purchase of seismological equipment’s from Nanometrics Incorporation, in Canada.
When the new equipment’s arrived into the country, Mineral Resources Department’s (MRD) Seismology Unit organized a training with the supplier. Therefore, a virtual training was then conducted from Monday 28th June - Thursday 1st July 2021.
The virtual training was focused on the procedures to be undertaken during the installation and the analysis of seismic data using the upgraded version.
The current version called Libra will now be upgraded to Libra II and has much improved features that would assist towards the monitoring and timely dissemination of real time information on earthquakes.
In upgrading the seismological equipment’s it justifies governments continuous urge to have our country in a state of preparedness when earthquakes or any other disaster occurs.
The virtual training was attended by five officers from the Seismology Unit.
Furthermore, a virtual training will be organized before the initial installation deployment will take place in the new Financial Year.
