Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Mr. Jone Usamate visited the Tailevu VSAT Seismic Station in Nasinu Village, Dawasamu which was the first seismic station to be upgraded of the six stations around Fiji.

The Hon. Minister commended works carried out by the Mineral Resources Department, on the completion of the upgrade.

On 31st of August, 2021, a team from the Seismology Section was deployed for the upgrading works on the Tailevu VSAT station.

This much needed upgrade will enable the Seismology Section to better monitor, analyse, verify, research, and provide accurate and timely earthquake information.
It will ensure and improve public safety, environmental protection and the nation’s economic security is paramount.

The remaining 5 VSAT stations will be upgraded subject to MoH COVID-19 travel restrictions.
