The Director Lands (DL), Ms Irena Nayacalevu, has capitalized on the unfortunate circumstances that the pandemic has forced to many living outside the Lami – Nausori containment area.
While currently working from her home in Serua because of COVID-19 restrictions, this has not stopped her from continuing her efforts to serve the public.

The Director Lands and her Navua based Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources team have been seen erecting Public Notices along the Naitonitoni – Naitata beachfront in the Ministry’s bid to raise awareness in reducing illegal sand extractions.
This is mainly due to the increase in illegal sand and gravel extraction in the Navua area.

On Wednesday, DL and the team spent the afternoon cleaning up Naitonitoni beach as part of their wellness programme and social obligation.

“The beach is an open public space and reserved for public recreational use. Hence it is our moral responsibility (you and I) to keep it clean, safe and healthy for use. We hope to continue this exercise every Wednesday afternoon and involve the Navua community so as to create awareness in our campaign to restrict the removal of sand and keeping their foreshore clean,” Ms Nayacalevu said.

The team thanked the PA Serua and PA Namosi who have agreed to work with them in the future.
